Walter Bobbie is director of a show that is set in the Chicago of Al Capone, but he sees it as an essentially modern piece, relevant to today. What he wants is an overriding image, an energy and an immediacy. The immediacy comes largely from the writing of Kander and Ebb, who grab the audience with All That Jazz and hold it through a succession of hits that include Cell Block Tango, When You're Good to Mamma, Razzle Dazzle and Class.

Ian Fleming's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has arrived! The enthralling story of the adventures of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang the magical car as it sails the seas and flies through the air will bring back a host of memories. Adrian Noble has directed a cast of 40-plus in Jeremy Sam's stage adaptation of the 1968 movie-musical by Ian Fleming. Michael Ball stars as the happy go lucky inventor Caractacus Potts opposite newcomer Emma Williams as Truly Scrumptious who, together with Potts' two children, find themselves caught up in a magical adventure. Joining them on the Palladium stage is Brian Blessed as the highly-strung Baron, a man who will stop at nothing to get his hands on Potts' incredible, flying car Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Mikado, The
D'Oyly Carte Opera Company presents a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta to the Savoy, the long established home for their work. Based on Shakespeare's comedy and presented as a play within a play, Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate follows the lives and loves of a travelling troupe of actors during their run of a musical version of The Taming Of The Shrew. Michael Blakemore directs this Broadway transfer which includes some members of the original award-winning cast.
