MEDUSA® 2D/Drafting

Overview

Users work within the single MEDUSA software environment, using 2D/Drafting features to generate and modify engineering drawings, mechanical designs, electrical schematics, and instrumentation diagrams. Any product can be designed that can be completely described by a drawing.

MEDUSA works the way engineers are accustomed to working. The software is strikingly simple to learn and use, eliminating time consuming training in new system concepts. MEDUSA commands, tools, and dialogues are oriented to the task at hand, giving you a quick and easy way to move through the design and drafting process.

MEDUSA's User Interface is composed of menus and trays containing commonly used groupings of tools for easy, intuitive traversing of the command structure. The dynamic nature of the menu system allows the users to copy buttons and build task specific tool trays. Extensive use is made of context sensitive right mouse button pop-up menus.

MEDUSA gives you dynamic feedback, displaying the result of your actions as you work. You can determine the effects of a command on the entire design before you commit to changes. MEDUSA dynamically presents dimensions as you create them to suit the particular drawing. At all times, you have a clear visual picture of the results of your work. There are no surprises, just fast accurate drafting.

MEDUSA Parametric Design

Overview

2D/Parametric Design automatically adjusts any size and shape of a drawn part. Drawings can be modified by changing the values of any dimension that has been defined as a variable. The values can be entered interactively, or automatically, using macros. 2D/Parametric Design uses dimensions instead of a programming language to define parts. The built-in intelligence automatically infers rules about tangency, perpendicularity, symmetry, and co-linearity.

2D/Parametric Design offers:
Interpretation of tolerance values according to maximum, minimum, or midrange values
Easy development of families of parts
Automatic drawing generation according to applied sets of dimensions
Highly precise input to the manufacturing processes
Reduced demands for tedious, repetitive geometry definition
Simple Mechanism Simulation

MEDUSA® Mechanical Design

Overview

MEDUSA Mechanical Design software couples the ease of the 2D system with the results normally associated with the use of 3D solid modelers. With MEDUSA Mechanical Design, users have the ability to generate complex drawings, integrate existing drawings, and incorporate 2D views of components that were created in 3D or another 2D system.
MEDUSA Mechanical Design is built upon a foundation of engineering-oriented concepts. Design components are used to create assemblies, and all aspects of the component or assembly design are presented in views. MEDUSA Mechanical Design manages parts and products rather than lines and arcs or drawings and sheets.

MEDUSA Mechanical Design's object-based approach to design provides benefits far beyond the graphics area. By building information about components and assemblies, MEDUSA Mechanical Design automatically builds an assembly tree that accurately and intuitively illustrates the hierarchical structure of any assembly. This allows users to navigate easily through an assembly of parts to ascertain its contents and the contents of its subassemblies.

When a part of the assembly product structure is modified, its use throughout the assembly is automatically updated so all users active in the assembly see the changes automatically. MEDUSA Mechanical Design allows the entire design team to visualize and prove-out the design more rapidly and cost effectively - eliminating the expense of last minute design changes and ensuring a right-first-time fit.

BENEFITS
Save time by reusing existing work
With MEDUSA Mechanical Design's engineering oriented concept, a component can be created once, stored in the database, and used in multiple assemblies. If the original part is altered, MEDUSA Mechanical Design has the ability to either automatically update each instance of the part in the assembly drawing or preserve the original part.
Design teams can use either a top-down or bottom-up approach for each project. Team members have the option of either creating a series of parts and all their views and then incorporating them in assemblies or design the assembly and draw the subcomponents on the fly.

Increase productivity with parametric parts
Using MEDUSA parametric capabilities, single part geometry can be constructed once. MEDUSA Mechanical Design software parametrically scales the design to different sizes, rapidly generating the variant component drawings. It also has the capability to update hidden lines and cross hatching. Since most assemblies contain parametrically variant parts, such as screws, bolts, and nuts, users gain productivity benefits even before they begin to design an assembly.

Perform hidden line removal without the overhead of 3D modeling
MEDUSA Mechanical Design's ability to place components on multiple Z-plane sets the stage for object-oriented hidden line removal. MEDUSA will automatically remove or dash the hidden lines based on intelligent calculation of the closed boundaries and their surfaces. Users get an accurate view of the assembly while maintaining the integrity of the geometry

MEDProTM :

Interoperability for MEDUSA® and Pro/ENGINEER®.

MEDPro was developed specifically to support the simultaneous use of MEDUSA and Pro/ENGINEER.

MEDPro opens a new dynamic process for Pro/ENGINEER users and provides unique access to 3D-systems for the MEDUSA user.

MEDPro connects MEDUSA and Pro/ENGINEER interoperably.

A substantial characteristic of this interoperability is that the Pro/DETAILTM and MEDUSA sheet formats can be read directly, further processed and saved alternately.
This will allow for example that 2D Pro/ENGINEER views can be directly integrated into existing MEDUSA sheets.

Interoperability will support mapping of the data structures from Pro/ENGINEER and MEDUSA in a way that cannot be achieved via standard interfaces.

MEDPro enables the independent or embedded storage of sheets. Independent sheets will be saved under the same name and in the same directory but with different name endings, e.g.: MEDUSA with the ending .SHE and Pro/DETAIL with the ending .DRW.

The MEDUSA sheet is saved integrated in Pro/DETAIL when saved with the embedded storage.
The MEDUSA sheet will become available when switching from Pro/DETAIL to MEDUSA.

MEDPro is handled via 5 buttons in Pro/ENGINEER:

Application / MEDUSA: MEDUSA is started with the current Pro/DETAIL drawing
File / Save as MEDUSA copy: The Pro/DETAIL drawing is saved as a MEDUSA sheet
Edit / Break down MEDUSA sheet: MEDUSA elements will be changed into Pro/DETAIL elements. The embedding will be abrogated.
Insert / MEDUSA elements from sheet: MEDUSA elements will be transferred into the current Pro/DETAIL drawing.
Insert / Complete MEDUSA sheet: The complete MEDUSA sheet will be loaded into Pro/DETAIL

MEDPro is an optional MEDUSA module and supports Pro/ENGINEER 2001 Data code 2001360 or higher and MEDUSA 2001200 on Windows®NT 2000 und XP.
Further operating systems will become available with the next version
