2 – ONLINE DATA BACKUP
OK, so Backing
Up your important Data, a MUST for anyone who stores
important information on their Computer, Laptop, Notebook, or Server.
We all know the importance of Data Backup but how many of us have
systems in place to assure that it gets done safely and reliably?
I recently came across a concept that, at first, sounded a little dodgy
to me. after further investigation, however, I discovered that this concept
was quite the opposite. in fact it is borderline BRILLIANT. The concept is ONLINE DATA BACKUP. This idea literally takes
the Headache of Backing up your DATA away. Sounds too good to be true,
doesn't it? You are probably asking yourself, Can it Be... And if so How
safe, Secure and reliable is it?
Firstly let me
explain how it works: You purchase the system from a online data backup company, the Software gets
installed on your machine, this software communicates with the online data
backup company via a high speed Internet connection and VOILA, the
system is in place.
Now you need to Tell the Software What Data To Backup, This is done Via
a user friendly interface within the Software Program itself, so you Need
not panic, it is very simple and easy to use. There after all you need do
is leave your Computer. Laptop, Notebook or Server running and the System will do the rest.
These Backup systems run in the background so they do not, noticeably,
affect the performance of your System. Your first Backup, however,
is going to be a long one, as the Data Backup System would have a lot of Data to
backup to the online backup server, and understand that it is uploading
this data at a speed limited by your Internet connection. So the faster your Internet connection Speed the faster
Your Backup will Run.
After the initial Backup has taken place, the Software monitors your Computer, Laptop,
Notebook Or server, and tags any Change in the data or additions
to the data for the next online Backup Session, so now your system is
continually getting backed up without you having to do anything, it
just happens. This Process of Follow-up Back ups is quick and quiet,
You won't even know that it is happening.
This brings us to the next logical question, WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I WANT TO RESTORE MY DATA?
That was exactly the question I asked, and here is the answer, Data
Restoration is carried out by the same Software that Does the Backing up,
all you need do as a end user or network administrator, is go to that part
of the Software Program that is for Restoring Data, Tell the Software which Data
you want to restore, this is also done via a user Friendly
interface, and the system will take care of the rest.
An interesting Fact is that the System copies the backed up data back to exactly the same
location that it backed it up from, so you never need to worry about
your DATA TRAIL the Online Backup System takes care of that for you.
This is one of the Most
Intelligent Data Management ideas I have Come across, It simplifies
a rather daunting but Important Task, that of backing up your Data. I know
it makes my life as an I. T. Consultant much easier.
