Location: Ljungaverk, 40 km east of Sundvall, Mid Sweden. 0nly 4 degrees away from the artic circle!
The name of the lake is Kulltjärnarna if you translate it it would be like Hill-lake or Small lakes on the hill. N 62 22'59" E 16 0'15". The lakes are approximately 375-425 meters above sea level.
Facilities: Guest House/ hotel on the golf course, about R600.00 per night. The owner is British and knows the fishing.
Fly Fishing Notes: A channel near the hydro station is stocked with plenty 30cm plus rainbows. Presenting a surface Walker Killer ensured 14 trout within an hour and a half. The fish are all CAR or "Put and Take" as they call it. You may fish this section only on certain times and certain days. The river is open at all times. The river section for about 200m is reserved for fly-fishing only. You need a daily permit that you can purchase from the news cafe near the station. You have to ask around about these things as the waters are policed by the locals. The lakes around are filled with wild browns. These can only be fished in mid summer. Rest of the time it is ice fishing. During my 3-day stay some locals even caught some Salmon.
What to do and see: The scenery is breathtaking. You will need a local guides to accompany you into the forests. There are a few paths but not well traveled. Part from the tall stories about bears and moose, this place is great. Some scenic drives and ice fishing for pike in winter.
When to visit: Their summer June-Aug. With nearly 20 hours of daylight, you can fish till 23h00 at night! It still get cold, be prepared with all-weather clothing. The saying goes : " there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes!"
General Comment: I was fortunate that my work required me to visit this area. As it is pricy and a bit out of the way, You may not want to go there for a holiday, unless you are keen to find the a real wild brown trout.
