** Tips for using the solar box cooker **
- Put your food in the cooker early on in the day, and don't worry about
overcooking.
- Always cook with the lid on. It's OK to check on the food, but replace
the lid as soon as possible.
- Larger quantities of food, or food that needs more time to cook (= carrots),
should be positioned at the back of the cooker where the heat is greatest.
- Before baking cakes, biscuits etc, pre-heat the cooker for about half an hour!!
Baking is best done during the middle of the day.
- All the pots should be black. If you don't want to paint your pot (on the
outside that is!), wrap it in a black piece of material.
- Food cooks quicker in several small pots than one large one.
- Wind will reduce your cooking temperature, so put the cooker in a
sheletered spot, but in full sun.
- Remember to keep the cooker facing the most direct sun's rays.
- Use a potholder when removing pots or lids. The pots can get very hot!
- If food is already cooking when rain or clouds appear, bring cooker inside,
wrap pots in blankets, and some cooking will continue.
