Troutways Private Retreat, located just outside Waterval Boven, has been operating for 10 years. It was conceived not only for the sake of fly fishing, but as an escape to fresh air, the smell of the veld and family togetherness. There are 5 well-stocked trout dams (Rainbow Trout) of which 4 are fishable all year round. The dams are shared between 2 lodges, but there's more than enough water frontage to secure totally private fishing. A permit can also be obtained for fishing along 8km of the Elandsrivier (10 min drive from the farm).
There are three fully self-contained lodges available; the original Homestead Lodge and the more recently completed Rainbow Lodge & Kingfisher Lodge. Each lodge is rented out as a unit, which guarantees total privacy for you and your guests. The retreat is also particularly suited to executive entertainment. Lodges are fully serviced. A modest fee is paid directly to the housemaid.

Each lodge has a fully equipped kitchen and Homestead Lodge has a bar as well as a pool table. All lodges have outside patios with built in braai's. Bedding is provided but guests must provide their own towels. An initial amount of wood is supplied, but more wood can be purchased. Also available are horse riding (operated by Blaauwbosckraal Trails) , rock pools for swimming, a canoe, ample bird life and bright stars at night.

Mountain weather is rather unpredictable and can change within a few hours. Even in summer it can become very cold and misty without much warning. Jerseys and jackets should be brought with you throughout the year and a pair of good shoes is essential.
During heavy rains, the low water bridge to Homestead Lodge may be flooded, in which case it will be inadvisable and dangerous to cross. We have recently made some improvements to the bridge but, if in any doubt, contact us to establish conditions before attempting to reach the lodge.
