EVANGELICAL PRESENTATION

(Leading a person to God)

The following presentation is an example of one you may use when speaking to someone with the intention of leading them to repentance.

You start by asking the person in question the following two questions:

Q1. Are you confident in your own heart that you are secure in your relationship with God?

Q2. If someone come to you and asked "How can I find God?", What would you say?

(The answers you receive to the above will tell you a lot about where the person is in their relationship with God.) You then continue....

You, as an individual, can have definite answers to both these questions. With your permission I would like to share a few facts, concerning your answers, with you.

We are taught in the Bible, by the teachings of Jesus Himself, that in order to be in right standing with God we have to be born again (John 3:3-7). The rebirth that Jesus is referring to here is a spiritual rebirth (John 3: 3+7). The reason for this because God is Spirit and in order that man can understand the things of God, man must be spiritually reborn (John 4:24 and 1Cor. 2:14). The bible even tells us why we need to get our relationship with God right. It is because of the Adam's disobedience toward God that mankind is no longer in the correct relationship with God. Because of what Adam did we are all considered to be born into sin (Rom. 3:23 and Rom. 5:12 and Rev. 20:15).

Now one may say that this sounds great and understandable, but how does one go about being born again?

This is a lot easier that is generally realized. According to the Word of God there are a few things that He requires us to believe concerning His Son Jesus.

Firstly, we must believe in our hearts that Jesus, as the Son of God, died for our sins. That His blood was the price for the forgiveness of our sins (Rom. 5:8-9 and Rom. 10:9-13 and 1Cor. 6:19-20). We must also believe that His resurrection restore our unity with God. His death was the price for our sins and His resurrection justifies us before God (Rom. 4:24-25).

Just as in Adam (mankind), was originally created to be in fellowship and friendship with God, we are once again justified, through our belief in Jesus as our saviour and what He went through for us, to have fellowship and friendship with God. The unity which was broken by Adam has been restored by Jesus (Eph. 2:18 and John 14:6 and John 3:36).

In the next part of the new birth process, Jesus must become Owner and Lord of your life (Rom. 10:9 and 1Cor. 6:20). We must therefore follow His teachings and live life with the values He teaches us in the Bible (John 14: 21+23). We must, as Christians, then live a life that will bring Glory and Honour to God. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour we become new in the eyes of God (2Cor. 5:17-19).

Like so many people I already believed these things I have just shared with you, but I never took it any further. Belief in all this is great; this is first step in the new birth process. It is however not enough to just believe, Jesus said that even the demons believe. The Bible teaches us that after believing we are required to repent (Acts 3:19 and Acts 17:30). This is simply making a decision to change your life and to follow Jesus. We must also prove our repentance by our deeds; our way of life (Acts 26: 20 and 20:21 and 2Peter 3:9). To repent means we make a definite decision to change. It means that we will with our mind, soul and body, decide to live to bring honour to God.

This is not an overnight change. As you allow the Spirit of God to work with and in you, you will experience change. What you are in fact doing is making Jesus the owner of your life. You are going to allow Jesus and His teachings to become the management in your life. We are now going to follow God's plan for our life which leads to eternal life with Him. The alternate is the plan of Satan which leads to eternal damnation. We must decide to let God lead our lives (Phil. 2:9-11 and 1Peter 2:9).

There are three basic steps to rebirth.

1. We must believe

2. We must repent

3. We must put action to our beliefs. We are told in God's Word that believing alone is not enough (James 2:14-17,22,24,26 and Phil. 2:12-15). The first action to our belief is to pray and ask that Jesus will come into our hearts and forgive us our sins. If you are unsure as to what other actions to take throughout life, read the Bible, it is God's way of speaking to you, of teaching you. Also pray about all you want to be and do (2Tim. 3:16-17).

Doing what you say you believe is what brings about change and growth. You will experience change in your spirit. As you believe and accept as fact these things I have just shared with you and you put action to your belief, it causes your spirit-man to be born again. We become new spiritual creations (2Cor. 5:17-21). We start out as spiritual babies (1Peter 2:2). For you to grow to a spiritual adult one must fellowship with other believers (Heb. 10:25) and pray regularly (Acts 2:42 and Acts 6:4) and the best way to build up and to grow in your faith is to read your Bible. It is the Word of God, written through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and it is God's way of teaching you and guiding you.

You will also change and grow in mind, soul and emotions.

1. Grow in grace (2Pet. 3:18)

2. Have new attitudes (Eph. 4:23)

3. Don't conform to the world (Rom. 12:2)

Then ask the following:

Q3. Do you understand what I have just shared with you?

Q4. Would you like to choose God's way of a new birth?

If Q4 = "Yes" then  PRAY
