In November 2001 we completed the construction of an addition to our house in Bloubergrant. It is a fully equipped two-bedroom flat that we make available as self catering holiday accommodation for visitors to Cape Town. The flat has its own entrance and our guests can enjoy total privacy. And we are within walking distance (500 metres) from the beach. A map of the Blaauwberg area can be found here. On the map, click on "Bloubergrand" (sic), and look for Spray Road to see where we are.
The two couches can both be converted to double beds by folding out the seat cushions. There is a ceiling fan for those hot summer days. Further, the whole flat has ceiling insulation, and all the floors are tiled to help to keep things cool. The sliding doors open onto a small shady patio. The television set is connected to the one in the house, where we have digital satellite television.
The kitchen is an open-plan design and is separated from the lounge by a cupboard, which also serves as a breakfast nook. Or as a bar counter, if you want....
We stocked the kitchen with all those utensils that we considered essential. It has a counter-top four plate stove and a hood filter unit overhead, as well as an oven. There are also a microwave oven, kettle, toaster, fridge, and enough pots, pans, plates, glasses, cutlery, etc. It has a twin tub stainless steel washbasin. Other essentials supplied are an electric iron and ironing board and brooms, a mop, etc. Keeping the flat neat and tidy is easy, since all the floors are tiled.
But since you're supposed to be on holiday while you're here, there's no need to even use the kitchen. There's a host of restaurants, steak houses, pizzerias, fisheries, etc., less than one kilometre from the flat, and also several take-away facilities that deliver right to your door within 15 to 30 minutes after ordering.
The main bedroom has two comfortable three-quarter beds and built in cupboards.
The second bedroom has two sets of double bunk beds to sleep four persons maximum. It also has built in cupboards.
The bathroom has a bath, toilet, hand washbasin and (off the picture behind the door that's visible on the right) a shower.
The driveway at the flat's entrance is large enough to accommodate several vehicles, and thus there is no need for your vehicle to spend the night out on the street.

Dawn on 24 November 2003, outside the flat with Jean-Claude van Damme. Some scenes for the movie "The Wake of Death" were shot in the street in front of our house, and in a house across the street, all night each night from from 20 to 23 November 2003. (Van Damme is the one not needing a haircut....)
