Grobler: means rough, big, strong. Johann Grobler is the ancestor of all Groblers in  South Africa.
Born on 10 Okt 1678 in Grobleben, Tangermunde in Germany. Arrive in 1708 in South Africa. From 1708-1713 he was a wood-cutter and later wagon driver in service of the VOC. In 1712 he was in the service of Maasdorp as farm labourer. He became a 'Vryburger' in 1715.
