Uncle Polla started in 1993, supplying secondhand books to learners. The shop is situated on the grounds of Paul Roos Gymnasium, and the core business is school books.

Presently learners from Paul Roos Gymnasium, Stellenbosch High School, Bloemhof Hoër Meisieskool and Rhenish Girls' High School are supplied directly with new and/or secondhand books and stationery. A wide range of study guides are available.
