NEWSLETTER November
2008
Dear
Parents and Students,
As the year comes to a close I would like to thank the students
for their hard work and commitment. Thank you to the parents for
supporting music education and to all the teachers for their dedication
and care.
My
research project and thesis for my Masters is well under way. It
has, however, been a challenge to find enough time in the day to
deal with everything on the level that I would like to, so apologies
if I have been delayed in responding to you in any way. I still
have one more year to go so thank you in advance for your patience.
CONGRATULATIONS
TO:
Maritza
Herselman for being one of the top 150 vocalists in the country
in the Supersterre Singing Competition.
We wish her all the best for the next round in January when the
top 10 South African stars will be chosen.
The
following students passed their Trinity College London International
Exams:
Sarah
Lane (keyboard, grade 4)
Kayleigh Rutherford (merit
in keyboard, grade 5) and
Chelsea Thomson (distinction in classical
guitar, grade 6).
Ben
Alheit (classical guitar) was selected to perform in the
annual Sweet Valley Music Competition.
FUTURE
EVENTS:
- In
2010 we will be celebrating CTAM’s
10 Year Birthday with
a variety of exciting events such as: workshops, concerts and master
classes. A possible trip to attend a music festival in Europe
is being looked at as is offering international guitarist and teacher
Gregory Newton an opportunity to perform
and give some Master Classes for CTAM. Dr Newton is President
of the American Guitar Society and Director
of the International Concert Series. He is also on
the board of the Guitar Foundation of America. Last
year he was awarded a Doctorate in Music performing
some of my ‘African-inspired’ compositions. He
is a wonderful personality, teacher and performer.
- We
welcome your ideas too, so please email any thoughts you may
have, especially with regard to an event or class you would want
to participate in. We also value any contacts, venues, fund raising
ideas or practical suggestions you may have. Email your
ideas to akinsey@mweb.co.za
Fees:
Next
year we will have executive accountants V Swemmer & Mc
Innes Assoc. to oversee policy and financial matters. The fee
structure and methods of payments, however, will largely remain unchanged
for 2009. The annual fee increase which comes into effect next year
has been kept to a minimum of close to 7%. For details on fee options
please see the CTAM page or click here.
I wish you all the very best over the festive season and look forward
to seeing you again in the New Year.
