MID-TERM NEWSLETTER February 2007

Dear Parents & Students

We welcome to our staff Barry Prince, and look forward to enjoying his expertise in teaching voice, musical theatre and piano. The year got off to a roaring start with more students than ever. As a result, we will be employing more teachers for guitar, piano and keyboard in the 2nd Term. Your support in some re-structuring of the timetable in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

May I also take this opportunity to congratulate Andreas van Wyk on achieving a distinction in both his grade 5 guitar and piano—Trinity College London exams. Congratulations also to Chelsea Thomson for winning a scholarship from Herschel School to study classical guitar at the Academy. We welcome Angelo Paulo from the Waterfront Theatre School, who will be doing her professional ATCL voice, and musical theatre exams under the tutelage of Barry Prince.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING CHANGES for the 2nd TERM:

  • I will be focusing on 45 and 60 minute lessons for intermediate, advanced and exam pupils. The other highly recommended teachers I have personally selected, will be taking beginner piano, keyboard and guitar for 30 and 45 minute lessons. The adjustment is a necessity for me, as 6 hours of back to back teaching without a break is proving impossible.
  • Your input and suggestions are greatly valued. I particularly welcome suggestions for a concert venue for our end of year prize giving and a venue for our adult guitar evenings, as well as suggestions for fund raising to cover hire and other function related costs. Email ideas before 07/03.
  • I will be attending some seminars on fund-raising to look into sponsorship for the Academy, but as you know we have run and meantime will continue to run on a commercial basis. My aim: to keep the fees as close as possible to the current rates, but to accommodate the additional teachers will most likely necessitate some minor fee adjustments. The end of term newsletter will clarify further.
The vocal and musical theatre lessons and fees will be unaffected.
